The silk tradition is built on collective work that strengthens the dream of transformation in the department of Cauca. The craft of silk, a tradition that arrived in Colombia in the early 1990s, persists here.Marech is a project that weaves the future by strengthening tradition, creating a link between the traditional manual practices of silk craft and the current market with sustainable and eco-friendly products, unique pieces that connect to the hearts of customers. This company represents the work of a territory, of a farming and entrepreneurial family that has lived for more than 30 years in the mountains of Cauca, to the east of Popayán.
Marech is located in the village of Santa Bárbara, in the municipality of El Tambo, at an altitude of 1,760 meters, with an average temperature of 20 degrees, ideal climatic conditions for sericulture, an activity that over time became a family enterprise. At Marech, the main crop is mulberry, but the land is kept in harmony with the territory and maintains food sovereignty by diversifying crops such as avocado, coffee, pineapple, plantain, yucca, vegetables, and medicinal plants, among others. These practices in the circular economy strengthen the silk production chain that survives in Cauca and is the livelihood of many farming families, some headed by brave single mothers who learned this ancient art from the Chinese and Koreans and combined their knowledge and ancestral culture with the oriental culture to weave exclusive garments and accessories in silk.
